My dream...
It's (still) a date!

About Sophia Lindop

Farm girl by birth, city girl by marriage… The only constant in my life has always been good, wholesome food, wine and company! Although I chose a variety of career paths in my life, I studied food and wine for six years before embarking on a detour that finally led me back to the kitchen, where I feel so at home! This newsletter is an invitation for you to come into my kitchen, with all its fragrances, warmth and laughter! Please come inside…

Things are heating up...

The pizza oven's in, the stove and extractor are in, the cupboards have a funky coat of paint on them, and the only thing standing between me and the next cookery course, is my father's 70th birthday bash!  We are off to my hometown today where we will spend a week with family...and as soon as our suitcases are unpacked again back home, I collect the aprons, and the games begin!  I am so excited!

My dream...

My dream...

I have a dream...to act as a food virus that infects people with a passion for quality ingredients, and for simple, amazing cuisine...  I have a dream to act as a bridge between the fear of cooking (that people have nurtured for years and years, be it a belief that it's just not something they can do, or a fear of venturing into new territory in their kitchens) and the joy of being a maestro in the kitchen.  My new cookery school is my vehicle to make this dream come true, and I am so excited!

Yesterday I found and purchased a first edition recipe book, dating back to 1891, written by the doyenne of South African cuisine, Hildagonda Duckitt, one of the first women to write a recipe book in South Africa - I paid a lot of money for it, worth every cent, because it symbolises a dream another woman had, 118 years ago, and it will act as a reminder to me to keep dreaming, and to keep living my dream!

It's (still) a date!

It's (still) a date!

And so, here's your warm invitation to join me in my kitchen in Cape Town as I make my dream come true...

Next course dates are:

  • Wednesdays 1st, 8th and 15th July (sorry, previous newsletter said 'Mondays' - what was I thinking??)

Like a fish out of water - how to prepare fish and other seafood...
The course begins at 17h30 and ends at 20h30 with a quick dinner before we all call it a night.

  • Saturdays 4th, 11th and 18th July

Dinner parties - no longer a nightmare!
The course begins at 09h00 and ends with lunch at 12h00 before we embark on our weekend.

Make sure you secure your place now!  Cost is R350 per person per session and the course runs over a three-week period, i.e. a total of R1050 per person per course.  And all you need to arrive with is an excitement and a passion for good food!  The rest is on me!

August courses have been planned - here's a peep into what you can expect...

  • Take me home - bring your own dish and prepare dinner for you and your family to take home to enjoy together...
  • Wine and dine - a wine course presented by my great friend and well-known wine writer, Michael Olivier, and partnered with my scrumptious food...

Thank you to all who have already secured their space!  Can't wait to meet you!!

And remember, as the Polish proverb goes, "Fish, to taste right, must swim three times - in water, in butter, and in wine."

Until next time...hope to welcome you into my new kitchen soon!
